A Polk County couple was arrested after allegedly trying to scheme people into buying tickets for a bogus concert.
The couple, Phillip and Evelyn Bradley, said a concert on Oct. 24 would feature entertainers Nicki Minaj and Drake, but detectives uncovered their plot.
Now, the Bradleys face charges of scheming to defraud and grand theft.
The sheriff's office says an undercover detective met with the couple after they posted promotions for the concert on a website. It said the two entertainers were going to play at the Simmers-Young Park, and tickets were available for $75.
A crowd of up to 10,000 was expected, but the night of the concert no one showed up at the park. Detectives monitored the night through surveillance.
Earlier, a detective posed as a parks and recreation employee and met with the couple, who showed him their plans. Then the detective contacted representatives for Minaj and Drake.
Both denied any knowledge of a concert, and they said they had never heard of the Bradleys.
It does not appear that anyone actually bought tickets for the concert. However, detectives say three victims did invest money in the amount of about $60,000 with the couple for the concert.
The Bradleys are expected to appear in court Tuesday.
