Some retailers aren't waiting until Black Friday to get started with holiday sales. Several stores, including Walmart and Target, say they'll open their doors on Thanksgiving night.
Shoppers told FOX 5's Kaitlyn Pratt that they were divided by some retailers' decision to get a jumpstart on the biggest shopping day of the year.
Some believe the so-called "Black Friday Creep hurts employees and their families.
"My sister works at Macy's and it's ruining our Thanksgiving," said Tristan Spencer.
Opponents have launched petitions on social change website Change.org, asking retailers to "give Thanksgiving back."
"Every single year it gets earlier or later or earlier. It's midnight and then it's 10 p.m. the next day...When are you going to say, 'enough is enough,'" said Renee Gardner.
Others say stores wouldn't be opening doors on a holiday if they weren't making more money.
Retailers say they're only meeting the demand of consumers and there's a segment of their customer base that wants to be in stores early.
"That allows people to get their shopping in early," Brad White said.
Morgann Leidigh said she'd rather miss Thanksgiving dinner than deals.
"It's easier for people to stay up later than to get up earlier, so I think it's good," she said.
In the end, what consumers do this year will decide what stores do next year.
