When Stephen Odoardi walked into his garage Tuesday morning, he came face to face with a burglar ransacking his cars.
"I roll and I try to catch him, and that's what I did. I did what I had to do. You're on my property. This is my property. That's what I'm doing." Stephen Oduardi said.
Deputies say the suspect, 21-year-old Billy Donahue, had just broken into someone else's garage in Lakewood Ranch a few blocks away. But this time, Odoardi chased after him, fighting with him in the driveway and even jumping onto the getaway car to stop him.
"My feet were hanging out as I was in the window. I mean, it's like a movie. I'm in there, and I'm hitting him," he said. "I'm trying to get him out of the window because that was the only thing, not to start that ignition because once he did, I knew he'd get away."
"I panicked. I'm like, 'Oh my God! Oh my God! What's going on?" said his wife, Gina Odoardi.
His wife and three daughters heard the commotion and called Manatee County deputies just as the suspect took off, dragging Odoardi down the street.
"I saw him at this strange person's car in the window. He had him by the head, and he's just yelling 'call 911! Call 911!'" she said.
After a two hour search, deputies finally found the suspect hiding out in the woods nearby.
The Odoardi's are just thankful their dad and everyone else is OK.
"We're so thankful that he didn't get in the house because he basically was. The door to the garage was unlocked but thank God. We were very lucky," said daughter Stephani Odoardi.
Donahue is in jail facing several charges, including aggravated assault and burglary.
