A man accused of killing his wife in Seffner, then fleeing to South Carolina, was back in Hillsborough County making his first appearance in court Friday morning.
Christopher Belcher is accused of killing Gwendolyn Belcher.
According to investigators, it all began on September 16th, with an argument at the home. Christopher accused Gwendolyn cheating, and court documents show Belcher's young daughter heard the couple fighting, and Gwendolyn gasping for air.
A day later, the victim and her burned car were discovered on Taylor Road in Seffner.
Investigators say Belcher took off for South Carolina.
He was arrested last week, and returned to Tampa Thursday night.
Friday morning in court, he charged with second degree murder and was denied bond.
One neighbor we spoke to Friday said Gwendolyn was like a daughter.
Sara Savage said Christopher came over to visit a day after the murder, and never gave any hint of the horror that had occurred next door.
"He's a monster! He's not human. To do something like that then sit down with people that love her so much," Savage said.
Now she hopes justice is served.
"I pray and hope he never walks free again. They can do whatever they feel they need to do with him," Savage said.
