St. Pete Police: Keep a close eye on your chainsaws

Posted: Updated:

Detectives in St. Petersburg are looking for information after a series of lawn maintenance thefts – particularly on the west side of the city.

The numbers are astounding: 36 reported incidents since Sept. 1 for a total of approximately $100,000.

Detectives believe one or two black males have been seen near some of the thefts, and there is a pattern to how they operate:

A lawn maintenance worker will be doing job, and when they step away from their vehicle they come back to find items stolen. Police say the thieves have been after edgers, trimmers, chainsaw and leaf blowers.

Police say if anyone has any information, call detectives at (727) 892-5000.
