She's a YouTube sensation, a social media phenom and fast becoming her own name brand. We first met Michelle Phan two years ago when she was making videos in the living room of her Tampa apartment.
Then L.A. beckoned, and the young woman who grew up here in the Bay Area is taking it to the next level on the West Coast.
Our Los Angeles FOX TV crew caught up with her as she was shooting an episode for "Up Close and Personal," one of several shows featured on Phan's very own YouTube channel.
Last spring, YouTube debuted FAWN, For All Women Network, starring Phan, and including some of her gal pals, like sister-in-law Promise Phan.
Says Phan, "I went from filming in my bedroom...being this bedroom blogger to having my own production company in L.A. Now I'm actually able to film a travel series, a talk show, a makeover show, things I couldn't do on my own."
It all started with her makeup videos on YouTube. Phan did all the staging, videotaping and editing herself. When we met her in August of 2010 she told us, "I'm a one-woman studio and very proud of it."
She still is, and she's still racking up numbers that are the envy of everyone on social media. Phan is still amazed by the response to the video that set her on the path to YouTube stardom: Lady Gaga. Says Phan, "I think the numbers, they're so staggering that people just want to click on it, ok, why does this have 20 million views? Lemme just watch it."
Phan's Lady Gaga video actually has 33 million views, and climbing -- 12 million more than the TV audience for last May's 'American Idol' finale.
After that, Lancome Cosmetics came calling, making Phan their first official video makeup artist. Phan knew she was outgrowing Tampa.
"To go to the next level, I had to put myself in an environment that challenged me, and for me that was L.A."
Last April, Phan turned 25 and launched FAWN, which has more than a quarter-million subscribers and well over 13 million views to date.
Add to that her monthly Glam Bag subscriptions and a new line of jewelry, Ever Eden, Phan is continually expanding her brand and her online empire.
She says the secret of her success is really pretty simple.
"I don't have a formula. I wake up every day and I love what I do so much. I'm still going. I'm still challenging myself and I'm still taking it to the next level."
