2012 Election: The most tweeted event of all time

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Throughout this presidential race, a lot has been said about President Barack Obama's record.

But on Tuesday night, he helped in breaking them on the social media front.

Officials at Twitter say Tuesday's election was the most tweeted event of all time. At 10 p.m. – even before Obama had won – Twitter was at about 20 million election-related tweets. That number was sure to about double eventually overnight.

Obama's first remarks didn't come in a speech; they came through his Twitter account.

"This happened because of you," @BarackObama tweeted right after winning. "Thank you."

Later, it sent out a tweet of Obama sharing an embrace with the first lady, becoming his most retweeted tweet ever.

The words along with it: "Four more years."

Even into the early morning hours and after his concession speech, Mitt Romney's official Twitter account had not sent anything out.
