It's been an Octoberfest for the Bucs offense. Tampa Bay has posted the most yards and most points per game in the NFL.
The explosive offense follows a September struggle. Offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan says there was no panic, just plenty of patience.
"If I had to pick any one area," said Bucs Offensive Coordinator Mike Sullivan, "it's the resolve of the unit to have that determination. We're not going to let [September] be how our season is defined. The focus is not what's down the road. It's what's right here."
The Bucs have hit high marks. They're now aiming for a fourth straight game of scoring four touchdowns or more in Oakland. The Bucs are pleased with their progress, but aren't celebrating it.
"It gives the confidence that, hey this is what we are capable of," said Greg Schiano. "But you are only as good as your next outing. That's what we need to do. We need to go out and do a little bit better this week against Oakland."
The Bucs have had some huge games out of their biggest names on offense. During this "October to Remember," who's been the unsung hero?
"Josh Freeman," said Tiquan Underwood.
Can the face of a franchise, a quarterback, be an unsung hero?
"I've never heard that," laughed Dallas Clark. "Maybe in high school, but not in the NFL. That's a young kids answer. He's got a lot to learn."
Freeman is the player to point to for the turnaround. Ranked 29th among starting quarterbacks in the first month of the season. Number 5 was number two in the league this past month.
"He's been making some huge plays," continued Clark. "You can see he's getting in that groove, that zone if you will. I don't know what the limit is. He's special."
Continuing the rise into November and beyond will be a true measure of success.
