ATLANTA -
Remember when the launch of a new windows operating system was a really big deal? Remember when Microsoft ruled the headlines of the tech world?
That was before the days of smart phones. It was well before the days of tablets. And was during the time when people were tied down at a desktop computer.
If one has not seen the commercials, they might have missed that Microsoft launched Windows 8 since it has not been dominating the tech headlines. Still, it does not necessarily mean it is not a big dead.
Windows 8 adds the potential to use your desktop computer as a tablet with touches and swipes. Of course, the purchase of a touch screen is required. But no worries are required as old monitors can still be used with the new operating system. They just have to be used as a regular old monitor.
Windows 8 is designed to work seamlessly with tablets running Windows RT, especially Microsoft's first entry into the tablet wars, the surface tablet that debuted at the same time.
It will cost $39 to upgrade from an existing Windows PC, but before shelling out money, spend some time online reading the reviews. Some have complained that the operating system is tricky compared to the previous version, not to mention those that came before it.
Have you tried or are avoiding Windows 8? Think it would be a waste of money to upgrade? Voice your opinion at facebook.com/DougEvansFOX5.
