You may not expect to see people getting a workout at the library, but that's exactly what's happening, thanks to the "Friends of the Library" program. Their efforts to help all ages stay fit and healthy is What's Right with Tampa Bay.
Inside the quiet walls of the Lutz Library, you may be surprised to hear the soothing sounds of a free chair yoga class. For many of the seniors that take part in this unique program, this is the most amount of movement they'll get all month, especially those in wheelchairs.
"So anything we can do to help them move the upper body, strengthen the shoulders, the wrists, the throat, the brain, their breath, is gonna help them through the long run," said Erin Wheeler, the owner of Lucky Cat Yoga Studio. She teaches the free class to these eager elderly students.
"Work it out ladies, work it out," she tells them.
"We bring yoga to anyone, anytime, anyplace," explained Wheeler.
The Friends of the Library Program is funded by the proceeds from their library book sales. The chair yoga classes are taught at the library twice a month.
