Port Richey teen injured when truck hits bike he was riding

NEW PORT RICHEY (FOX 13) -

A Port Richey teenager riding a bicycle was hit by a pick-up truck Saturday morning as he attempted to cross US Highway 19 in Port Richey.

The incident occurred just after 11 a.m. at the intersection of Ranch Rd.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report a Ford F-250 was traveling south in the outside lane when Robert L. Munson attempted to cross the roadway under a red light.

The driver of the truck was unable to avoid hitting the young man and collided with the bike in the crosswalk of the southbound lane.

Munson, 13, of Port Richey was among a group of bike riders traveling along the roadway when he was struck.

The teen was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg where he is listed in critical condition.

The official cause of the crash is still under investigation.
