The defense rested its side on Tuesday in the trial of a man accused of gunning down two DeKalb County police officers.
On Monday, William Woodard testified that he acted in self-defense when he shot and killed Officer Eric Barker and Officer Ricky Bryant, Jr. The two officers were working off-duty security jobs at an apartment complex in 2008 when they were killed.
The defense rested its case on Tuesday after a ballistics expert testified that Woodard was on the ground and shot up towards the officers. The expert used two law students to demonstrate how the 10 shots could have been fired in 3 seconds. Last week, the medical examiner testified that the shooter had to be standing up.
On cross examination, the expert admitted that he had not examined the officer's body and was basing his testimony on the evidence after the crime scene had been cleared.
Closing arguments for the prosecution and the defense will begin on Wednesday morning.
