No bond for teen accused of killing newborn

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

A 14-year-old Polk County girl accused of killing her newborn child made her first appearance in court today, and was denied bond.

Police say she delivered the nine and a half pound baby at home, choked the baby to death and then hid it in a shoebox. She apparently wore baggy clothes to hide her pregnancy.

The girl was arrested and is charged with first-degree murder. Sheriff Grady Judd says despite her age, the charge fits the crime.

"She checked it for a pulse to see if it was moving, and then she choked it to death. And then she felt for a pulse. She cut the umbilical cord. She got in the shower, cleaned the baby and put it in a shoebox. And that's where mom discovered the baby on Saturday. She is charged with capital murder, premeditated murder, because that's exactly what she did," Judd said.
