The prosecution rested its case in the trial of a man accused of killing two DeKalb County police officers. William Woodard is accused of killing Ricky Bryant Jr. and Eric Barker as they worked off-duty security jobs at the Glenwood Garden Apartments in 2008.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Woodard.
Woodard's attorney, Dwight Thomas, has argued that the shooting was a case of self-defense. Thomas said that Woodard fired the shots from the ground, not knowing the two men were police officers, even though they were in uniform.
State witnesses, including the former DeKalb County medical examiner, testified that the types of wounds the officers sustained aren't consistent with shots fired in self-defense.
Each officer was shot several times. Jurors were shown graphic autopsy charts that depicted the wounds.
Prosecutors hope the evidence shows that Woodard fired in cold blood.
The trial will resume on Monday as the defense presents its side.
