A police officer suffered minor injuries when he was brushed by a car driven by a fleeing suspect.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the Ross Norton Apartments in reference to a call about a vehicle with several people waving guns. When officers arrived, the vehicle in question tried to flee, bumping one of the officers with the mirror and passenger side of the car.
The subsequent pursuit ended at Druid Road and U.S. 19 when the suspect vehicle crashed and three people bailed out. K-9 units tracked them to the area of the Lowe's at Clearwater Mall, then the sheriff's office helicopter spotted two suspects on the roof.
Officers borrowed a ladder truck from Clearwater Fire & Rescue and were able to climb to the roof and take to suspects into custody. Inside the suspects' car, detectives say they found multiple guns and drugs.
Derrick L. Scudder, identified by police as the driver, and Barry Miller both face charges. Detectives are still working to identify the third suspect.
