Who would steal from little kids? Investigators in Winter Haven vow to figure it out. Someone just broke into a fenced area behind the Boys and Girls Club on Havendale Blvd early Tuesday morning, and stole $30,000 worth of copper wire.
The wire can be fenced for pennies on the dollar.
"My first thought was I really got angry at them," said Walt Hall, top administrator at the club. "But then I went to bed and prayed for
them."
This has been an especially tough time for the club. This is the second time this year it was vandalized. On Easter weekend,
someone stole $15,000 worth of copper wire. The club submitted an insurance claim and it was paid. Now they are worried about
submitting another claim so soon.
"They could drop us or jack us up through the roof," Frank Csmos told FOX 13. "If they do pay for it, we're going
to be paying for it anyway."
The wire came from boxes that provide electricity for events that are held on the property. The biggest is Smoke on the Water, a pigfest.
The club is now worried that if the wires are not replaced, this year's pigfest could be in danger.
