Atlanta Falcons player Michael Turner surprised some elementary school kids in College Park on Tuesday.
The running back made a surprise appearance at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School.
"I wouldn't be standing here today without an education," Turner told the kids.
Turner is helping the youngsters excel through an innovative program. He has teamed up with ClickN Kids, an online education company that focuses on teaching kids to read and spell.
The distributors of ClickN Reads phonics software is bringing the educational tool to metro area school kids for free.
"Software utilizing the power of the internet allowing kids to have high-quality curriculum that is required in schools and fun at the same time," said Armie Carabet of ClickN Kids.
The Falcons Pro Bowler was introduced to the program over the summer. He loved it and thinks it is a great way to have fun while learning.
"We been testing this program out for months and I was like, ‘let's get some into Atlanta and try it out and see if they like it,'" Turner said.
Turner gave the kids a quick tutorial, then they had their turn.
"I hope these kids take advantage of the opportunity they have with this program, because it's a fun opportunity and you are learning and having fun at the same time," said Turner.
There are plans to introduce the program to other metro area schools.
