Jonathan Michael Kelly is facing two counts of child neglect. He is being held without bond at the Hillsborough County Jail due to the fact that he was already on felony probation for a previous drug trafficking conviction at the time of this arrest.
Investigators say Kelly was punched in the face and robbed during an illegal narcotics transaction. In the back seat of his vehicle – his two children, ages one and four.
They are in the custody of Kelly's parents.
According to a Tampa Police Department report Kelly called a former high school acquaintance to set up a prescription pill purchase. They agreed to meet at the corner of Interbay and Bayshore boulevards to conduct the transaction.
They met up just before 10:30 p.m. investigators say. The acquaintance, identified as Jessie Massicotte, arrived with a female friend and their intention was to rob Kelly.
The report states one of them said ‘Give me your stuff,' just before hitting Kelly in the face. The pair took $60 in cash and fled the scene in a gray-colored Toyota.
Kelly then called the police to report the crime. He also gave a detailed description of Massicotte and the white female, later identified as Tiffany R. Miller, and they were located and arrested.
Massicotte, 33, and Miller, 28, are facing one count of strong armed robbery. Both suspects have prior arrests in Hillsborough County.
