Jason Galehouse's mother: 'it's about time'

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

For nine years, Pam Williams has waited.

"It's horrible. It's just absolutely horrible. No mother should have to go through something like this," said Williams

Back in 2003, her son Jason Galehouse went missing. He had been with friends at 2606, a gay bar in Tampa. That same night, another man went missing, Michael Wachholtz.

Detectives were led to two men, Steven Lorenzo and Scott Schweickert.

The men were eventually tried, but not for murder. They were found guilty of giving the date rape drug GHB to the men and sexually torturing them.

But now, nine years later, murder charges have been issued for Schweickert.

"It's about time," Williams said. "This is going on too long"

Williams said the last nine years have been a nightmare. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, dealing with it all alone.

She still has Jason's car and says she is stopped at least two times a month while driving it.

Because there have been no murder charges and no conviction, Jason is still listed as a missing person. She says officers pull the car over, still looking for Jason.

"If I didn't have my work, I probably would have gone nuts, been put in a mental institute, what mother wouldn't when you hear the way they killed him," she says.

Schweickert has told detectives he helped kill Wachholtz. He also said he helped dismember Galehouse and scatter his body parts in dumpsters across Tampa.

Now, he will face charges for the murder.

Tyler Hall, Jason's friend for 15 years, says it's time.

"It's so hard to hold on to faith, when we were told murder charges would have been filed, long ago. But now this day is here and I'm excited. But in the back of my mind, is, is this really going to happen?" he wonders.

All along, detectives have investigated whether there were other victims. One man in Clearwater, two in South Florida and two in Chicago were all investigated. But detectives could never tie them to Lorenzo or Schweickert.

"I think there's a lot of other people that have not been known about that were related to Lorenzo. I think he's an animal. Unfortunately, this happened and it's a devastation," Hall said.

The trial for Schweickert may still be two years away. After his trial, it's expected prosecutors will go after Lorenzo on murder charges.
