New trees to replace the ones cut down in Ybor City will be planted as soon as this week, city officials say.
According to the city's public affairs director, replacement trees between Palm Avenue and 7th Avenue along 13th Street will be planted by Friday.
They say the project to replace all the trees should be completed by October 19.
The city cut down dozens of trees in Ybor over concerns that they were growing into power lines, and their root systems were buckling sidewalks, creating tripping hazards.
The sight of dozens of tree stumps along Ybor's streets had visitors puzzled and business owners irate.
City officials say the replacement trees will be olive trees that will fit in better in Ybor's landscape.
