The Port of Tampa is making some big changes that should help it grow for years to come.
Ethanol is a cleaner, more efficient fuel, and demand is way up globally. But until now, the port hasn't been able to take in as much as it would like.
That's where the new Tampa Gateway Rail terminal comes in. They have a new track and offloading dock so they can receive more ethanol, as well as much more cargo.
Congresswoman Kathy Castor said the expansion puts the port in a unique position.
"There are no other ports in the country that are positioned than the Port
of Tampa to bring life to our businesses, lift this entire region, and I solute you all
for the work that you've done," she said at a press conference.
The project was a partnership of the port authority, CSX and Kinder Morgan Energy partners.
