A protocol officer for a general at U.S. Central Command at MacDill was arrested and accused of trying to meet a boy to engage in sexual activity.
Investigators say Stephen Governale thought he was meeting a 17-year-old boy he met on Facebook following sex chats, but he instead was arrested by federal officials at a Wendy's in Seminole County on Friday.
The 49-year-old, who is married, met the boy in 2009 and engaged in sexual activity in the past, according to federal court records.
Governale is charged with using the Internet to attempt to persuade a minor to engage in sex.
The boy's parents alerted the FBI of Governale and gave them copies of his chats, according to records.
