A teenager who was pulled from a swimming pool during a party Friday night has died, authorities said.
Jessie Shillingford, 15, was pulled from the water at the Temple Terrace Family Recreation Complex around 9 p.m. Friday. The complex was being rented by the Pepin Academy of Tampa for a pool party; around 150 children, parents and teachers were there.
According to Temple Terrace Police, Shillingford was taken off life support early this morning. They say the medical examiner released an initial report Tuesday confirming the cause of death as drowning.
Police say when they arrived at the party, lifeguards were performing CPR on Shillingford. They say several lifeguards were on duty.
After investigating, the department says the medical examiner has classified Shillingford's death as accidental. Investigators say that nothing indicates foul play, or that anyone was at fault.
