WellStar Health System ranked high for working mothers

MARIETTA, Ga. -

For all you potential working mothers, get out your resumes ready! The rankings for the best places to work are out and at least one Georgia company has made the list.

Mothers, what if you could make all of your children's school and extracurricular activities and still be the best at your job? WellStar Health System is committed to making sure working mothers have the best of both worlds.

Amanda Trask is  like any other working mom. Her early mornings consist of getting her children fed, dressed and out the door. What's extraordinary about Trask's situation is that according to Working Mother magazine, she works at one of the best places for moms in the country - WellStar Health System.

"My journey here at WellStar started with no children. And now here I have four children," said Trask, who is Vice President of Operations at WellStar.

At WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, employees enjoy quality, on-site childcare. It isn't the only benefit that puts them in the top ten. In addition to paid maternity and adoption leave, employees have access to concierge services.

"If I need dry cleaning picked up or need an errand run, they'll do that while I'm at work. The back-up care that we offer, so if I have a sick child, I can call and have somebody come to my house. And that's been very beneficial," said Trask.

Women make up 83 percent of WellStar Health System, but 94 percent of all employees have flexible scheduling.

"It's not just managers deciding when people work, people are coming together as teams and working together to create that perfect working opportunity. So they know they have to think about the needs of the patient, the needs of the organization but they're also allowed to think about the needs of their family," said Karen Mathews of Kennestone WellStar Hospital.

The benefits make life easier for employees. They don't have to choose between being a good mom and a good worker.

"Sometimes it's hard to balance all the demands and needs of family and work, but I think with the right partnership, it works well," said Trask.

WellStar was also named one of America's most adoption-friendly workplaces by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. For more information on WellStar Health System, click here. To view the complete best company list as seen in Working Mother magazine, click here.
