Authorities in Pasco County have identified the pilot of a 2004 Cessna 172S that crashed early Saturday morning in Land O' Lakes.

Andreas Wendel, 48, was a resident of Switzerland who worked for Edelweiss Air, a charter airline based in Kloten, Switzerland.

According to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report the deceased has not relatives in the United States. Witnesses say Wendel's plane clipped some power lines before crashing in a field near the intersection of Lake Irene Dr. and Bexley Rd.

Several calls came into the Pasco County Emergency Communications Center shortly after the aircraft went down just after 3 a.m. Deputies found debris strewn for approximately one-half mile.

The official cause of the crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
