OCALA (FOX 13) -

A 49-year-old Marion County woman was arrested early Saturday morning on one count of second-degree murder in the death of her husband.

Sherry Lewis was transported to the Marion County Jail where she is being held without bond.

According to a Marion County Sheriff's Office report deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 3700 block of Southeast 174th Court in Ocklawaha just after midnight in response to a domestic violence call.

When they arrived they found a 52-year-old male suffering from several stab wounds. The injured man was identified as Daniel James Lewis, the suspect's husband.

Investigators say Sherry Lewis admitted to 9-1-1 dispatchers that she ‘stabbed and hurt' her husband and was sorry.

Daniel James Lewis was found in the bathroom of the home and when asked who had stabbed him he responded – ‘My wife, she only nicked me a couple times.'

The injured man was transported by helicopter to Shands Hospital in Gainesville where he was pronounced dead just after 2 a.m.

Mr. Lewis suffered a total of five stab wounds – three to the upper left arm, one to the upper back and one to the upper chest.

Mrs. Lewis allegedly told deputies ‘I know what I did,' and then invoked her right to speak with an attorney before making any more statements.

She appeared to have blood on her clothes, arms and hands at the time of her arrest.

Investigators interviewed Tammy Leslie who spoke with the Lewises during a family gathering on Friday night. Leslie, 48, stated Mrs. Lewis was intoxicated and was verbally abusive towards her husband and other family members.

The suspect's daughter also told investigators that her mother had been physically abusive towards Mr. Lewis in the past.

Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
