Volunteers at a Buckhead church are hustling to reach to special goal this weekend. It is one that will help feed impoverished children in Nicaragua.
Donning hairnets and gloves, eager volunteers streamed into the gym at Peachtree Presbyterian Church on Saturday evening with one mission on their mind. They want to end starvation among some of the world's poorest children with one small bag of food at a time.
Church members coordinated this 3-day meal packing event with organizers from Feed My Starving Children. The international hunger relief agency plans to ship these protein enriched meals to elementary school children in Nicaragua.
The Buckhead church has assembled and packed more than 750,000 meals over the last two years. The goal this week is to reach the one million mark. About 200 volunteers hustles for two straight hours until the next shift of volunteers arrived.
Some parents who spoke with FOX 5 News said they wanted to bring their children along to help to help them gain a better appreciation for what they have and what many in the world go without.
