A 32-year-old Sarasota woman was arrested Thursday on a variety of charges including fraud.
Amanda Tierney Merritt was booked into the Sarasota County Jail and released after posting bond. She is scheduled to be arraigned on charges next month.
According to a Sarasota County Sheriff's Office report the suspect obtained nearly 4,000 pills during a 10-month period beginning in 2011.
Investigators with the department's Pharmaceutical Diversion Unit began investigating Merritt after receiving a call from an area pharmacist. Detectives determined the suspect was ‘doctor shopping' in order to obtain a large number of prescription pills.
Merritt is facing 20 counts of withholding information in order to obtain a controlled substance.
