As the presidential election heats up, one Bay area bakery is whipping up edible endorsements of customer's favorite candidates.
Frida's Bakery & Cafe in Largo is putting a new spin on their signature sugar cookies. They're adding fondant squares to the cookies, donning the faces of presidential candidates Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.
The bakery served up 850 of the treats in the past week. Owner Frida Alipour is keeping track of which candidate is topping the cookie poll. Friday morning, Alipour said President Obama had a slight lead. During the RNC, Alipour said Romney swept sales.
"As you know, it's a very competitive election, so they're coming to buy their favorite candidate and make sure their favorite candidate is ahead," Alipour said.
This is the third time Frida's Bakery has conducted a cookie poll. President George W. Bush won their cookie count in 2004, and Obama won their contest in 2008.
