A Cabbagetown homeowner says she is living in fear of the house next door. Rutu Chaudrai says a feud between the city of Atlanta and the bank that owns the property has left her own home in danger.
A three-story unfinished addition to the abandoned home shows signs that it could collapse, said Bob McCaughtry of A&M Contracting.
"It's just starting to look like it's starting to fall over and of course, when it falls, it's going to fall on my house and that's my major concern," said Chaudrai.
Chaudrai said that the homeowner who was renovating the home died before he could finish the project. The homeowner's widow moved out a short time later.
Officials said the home went into foreclosure in July. City officials said that Wells Fargo Bank owns the property and is responsible for its condition and maintenance. However, a Wells Fargo bank official said the home is no longer a company asset.
Chaudrai said she'd like the city or mortgage company that owns the house demolish it.
"It needs to happen now because it feels like this could fall down any day," said Chaudrai.
A Wells Fargo official said that the bank is working with HUD and other investors to address the problem as quickly as possible.
