SAFETY HARBOR (FOX 13) -

Another incident is highlighting the dangers of synthetic drugs. A man is accused of viciously attacking his own mother after using them.

Pinellas County deputies say 22-year-old Robert Payne tried to choke his mother while she was washing dishes in her Safety Harbor home.

Deputies say she hit him with a plant, so he took a piece of that plate and slashed his mother's throat. Investigators say he later admitted to taking synthetic drugs, known as K-2 and Spice.

"Unfortunately, we're seeing more and more of these synthetic drugs in incidents, whether criminal or behavioral issues," Marianne Pasha of the sheriff's office said.

Both the man and his mother are recovering.
