Sept. 11 events, memorials in Bay area

Here are just a few events around the Bay area today to remember the Sept. 11 tragedy.

9/11 Memorial Ceremony: A monument encasing a 150-pound steel beam from the World Trade Center towers will be unveiled at this event honoring the Americans lost in the Sept. 11 tragedy. 970 WFLA radio personality Jack Harris serves as master of ceremonies for the event with guest speakers, a pipe and drum band performance, U.S. Coast Guard fly-over and more. It's at 10 a.m. at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens, 1750 Curlew Road, Palm Harbor. Free. (727) 789-2000.

846A/ TAMPA: On Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, the airport will observe a Moment of Silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. in remembrance of the men and women who were lost in the attacks eleven years ago and to honor the emergency responders and men and women in the United States Armed Forces around the world. Travelers and guests are invited to observe the Moment of Silence along with airport employees.

945A/ ST PETE: In an effort to commemorate the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, which resulted in the death of hundreds of Fire and Law Enforcement professionals as well as many civilians, the department will observe a "Moment of Silence." Units will position apparatus on the front aprons of fire stations with emergency lights on. All personnel will be at attention in front of their fire apparatus and will prominently display "Never Forget 9/11" signs. A moment of silence remembering the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice when the South Tower collapsed, as announced by dispatch.

11-2P/ TAMPA: Citizens groups around the Tampa Bay Area are uniting to promote a day of peace this upcoming September 11th in order to raise awareness around the human, economic and environmental costs as well as the exposed corruption surrounding the ongoing War on Terror. Groups such as Veterans for Peace, Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), and Tampa Against the War on Terror will march in solidarity to demand closure to this endless and borderless war and promote more peace in the International community.
