Tech Check: iPhone 5 Fever

Tech Check: iPhone 5 Fever

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

The big news in the tech world this week has been and probably will continue to be the iPhone 5 announcement. Apple is expected to roll out the newest installment to the iPhone family this week.

Several leaked photos have already hit the web ahead of Wednesday's announcement. The latest is the new power cord that gets away from the current 30 pin connection. That's right, you will not be able to use your old cords. This makes sense with the previously leaked photos of a longer, thinner iPhone in the number 5.

The doctors at the iHospital in Atlanta spoke with FOX 5 about what they have been hearing. They say the back is different. The iPhone 5 should have a unibody style, so no more glass fronts or backs.

The current iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s both are encased in glass. This of course means that if you drop it, both the front and back can shatter and will need to be replaced.

Also, the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s also does not connect to the LTE network, an ability the iPhone 5 is said to possess. This would mean faster download speeds.

The iPhone Hospital doctors say those downloads would include high-definition video and content streamed to your phone over the network, rather than through Wi-Fi. Watching movies, clips, doing FaceTime, and other similar are said to be getting easier with this latest generation of iPhones with its ability to access the 4G LTE network.

When Apple announced the iPhone 4s, millions were expecting the iPhone 5. Many of those millions were disappointed that the iPhone 4s was a slightly different version of the iPhone 4 instead being a next generation gadget.

So, if you have either the iPhone 4 or the iPhone 4s, do you really need the iPhone 5? The iPhone doctors point out that the iPhone 4s came equipped with a better camera than iPhone 4 and with the reported access to the 4G LTE network on the iPhone 5, it opens more possibilities for your camera use.

The other consideration is the iPhone 4s has been out less than a year. So, a decision on if it is worth breaking your contract just for the iPhone 5 comes into play.

But the good news is that you can sell your used iPhone 4 and get back anywhere from $170 to $300 for an only iPhone 4 depending on the condition. The iPhone 4s could net you $270.
