Authorities in Polk County have identified and arrested a convicted felon in connection with a string of smash and grab robberies that occurred last month in Winter Haven.
Ingram Harper, a 24-year-old South Florida resident, was arrested in Orlando Friday. He is facing burglary charges.
According to a Polk County Sheriff's Office report three cars in the parking lot of Gold's Gym in the 5600 block of Cypress Gardens Blvd. were broken into on August 1st. Several items, including a couple purses, were stolen.
Detectives with the Orlando Police Department identified Harper as a suspect through fingerprints collected from the crime scene. Harper allegedly committed similar crimes in the Orlando area last month.
Following his arrest Friday Polk County detectives issued a warrant for his arrest. He is currently being held without bond at the Orange County Jail.
Investigators say the best way to prevent from becoming a victim in smash and grab robberies is to not leave valuables in your vehicle when left unattended.
"Our first line of defense against these crimes is education," said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. "Don't leave valuables in your vehicle and report any suspicious activity."
Harper is no stranger to law enforcement. The suspect has an extensive arrest record in Broward County for a variety of crimes including false imprisonment, burglary, grand theft and robbery.
Additional charges may be filed in both counties against Harper as the investigation continues.
