Store clerk Jun Teddy Wu never saw it coming. While sitting outside a Mobil station in Valrico early Wednesday morning, he was helpless as he was rushed by two guys.
The store's surveillance cameras caught several angles of the brutal assault on tape. Both suspects are armed with guns, their identities hidden by black hoodies and white masks. The video shows Teddy trying to fight back while the men gang up on him.
"They were armed and dangerous and he did everything in his power to keep them from getting anything in the store," said store manager Joseph Vizcarrondo Jr.
The guys were looking for an easy score, but they got away empty-handed. There was no money in the outside register.
They roughed up Teddy, bruising his face and leaving him shaken, but thankfully he wasn't seriously hurt.
The lock on the door may have saved his life. It had recently been changed from key style to a simple deadbolt type.
"So it locks quicker and easier. You don't have to use a key, which actually is one thing that saved his life -- the fact that he could slam the door and click it over," Vizcarrondo said.
"I feel so bad because I know him I talk to him all the time," said Luis Fernandez, a friend and cashier. "I hope they get them, for sure I hope they get them."
That's what deputies are trying to do, figure out who are the bad guys behind the masks. Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.
"A lot of times, even though they have a mask on, you might recognize them because of they clothes they have on or certain things about them," said Debbie Carter with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
