The Buccaneers' Sunday afternoon home-opener against Carolina in Raymond James Stadium will be blacked out. FOX 13 will air the San Francisco Green Bay game in its place on Sunday.
The word was the Bucs needed to sell 9,000 tickets just to reach the 85-percent capacity to avoid the blackout, and that didn't happen.
It didn't happen despite ownership cutting ticket prices, reducing concession costs, offering free parking, wifi in the stadium, aling with with special replays and apps.
The Glazers also split season ticket packages in half, calling them mini-season packages. All of it was designed to do one thing: Avoid the blackouts that have plagued this franchise over the last two years.
In 2010, all eight of the Bucs home games were blacked out. Last year, five games were blacked out, which means 13 blackouts in the last two years.
Now, with the blackout this week, 14 of the last 16 home games have been blacked out.
