DAVENPORT (FOX 13) -

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says a male teacher at Ridge Community High School has been arrested for having an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old former student.

The sheriff's office identified the teacher as 36-year-old Dale Pennington of Haines City . Pennington is being charged with "numerous felonies," the sheriff's office said. The school is in Davenport.

The investigation began when a source the sheriff's office is not naming reported inappropriate text messages between Pennington and the girl.

Investigators say Pennington confessed to being in contact with the girl for the past five months, sending explicit text messages and a link to a pornographic video.

Pennington now faces a list of charges: 16 counts transmission of material harmful to a minor; 15 counts of using of computer to seduce a child; 15 counts unlawful use of two-way communication device; and one count of traveling to meet a minor.
