ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) -

Fire crews stormed into a burning home late this morning and were able to rescue four victims -- most of whom offered a wag of their tails in thanks.

It was just before 11:30 when firefighters pulled up to the home on 39 Ave. N. Smoke was billowing from the single-story home, but crews fought back the flames while looking to see if anyone was trapped.

No people were home, but firefighters didn't come out empty-handed. During their search, they found three Chihuahuas and one cat all suffering from severe smoke inhalation.

The crews administered oxygen with special pet masks to all the animals, and all four seemed to respond to the treatment. They were taken by their owner, once he arrived home, to a local veterinarian hospital in stable condition.

The house, meanwhile, suffered an estimated $75,000 in damages. Investigators remain at the scene looking for a cause.
