It is rumor and reality in this week's Tech Check.

Starting with the rumors, because they are always more interesting, especially when they are about Apple.

Rumors of a new iPhone 5 heated up on the Internet this week with supposedly leaked photos of a thinner, longer new iPhone. The iPhone is almost 5 years old now. Some are saying the new iPhone will be announced on September 12th and available for purchase on September 21st.

Still talking about rumors and about Apple and this one is about the new iPad mini. Tech sites across the Internet are reporting that a smaller 7-inch version of the popular iPad could hit the store shelves in October. Apple founder Steve Jobs once said the 7-inch tablets were "dead on arrival," but there are reports now that Jobs warmed to the idea before his death.

Switching gear to reality, this about the 7-inch tablet Kindle Fire. Amazon announced this past week that it has sold out. The little tablet that could was not an iPad slayer, but it did capture 22-percent of the tablet market. Amazon is expected to announce a Kindle Fire 2 later this month.
