CLEARWATER (FOX 13) -

Clearwater Police have arrested a suspect in connection with Wednesday's armed robbery of a convenience store on Gulf-to-Bay Blvd.

Christopher Ryan Kelly, 28, is facing a variety of charges including armed robbery.

He was arrested without incident just after 9 p.m. Sunday. Kelly was apprehended while hiding on the roof of his parent's residence in the 2300 block of Ella Place.

According to a Clearwater Police Department report the suspect entered the Circle K at 1701 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. just after 1:30 a.m. Aug. 29. Investigators say he went to the cooler and brought a can of Coke to the counter.

When the cashier rang up the item Kelly allegedly pulled out a knife and demanded cash. The suspect jumped over the counter investigators say, opened the register and removed the money.

He jumped back over the counter and fled the store on foot. Police released a surveillance picture shortly after the incident and Kelly was identified as a potential suspect.

Sunday night a K-9 unit was checking the area near his parent's home when Kelly was observed exiting a vehicle and entering the house.

The suspect has two prior arrests in Pinellas County since 2008, both are drug related.
