As delegates file out of town, they give Tampa mixed reviews

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

The balloons have dropped, the bags are packed and the reviews are in.  Delegates to Tampa's Republican National Convention give the city and convention organizers high marks.

"Oh, great place," California delegate Becky Otwell said, waiting for her departing flight.

Jeff Thompson, a delegate from Idaho, agreed.

"I love being around the water," he said.

But this is also Tampa, and it's the end of August.

"The humidity was unbelievable," California delegate Jeff Breedlove complained.

Colorado delegate Robin Coran had difficulties getting from the convention site to her hotel.

"There were a lot of hitches the first night," she said.

Overall, however the reviews were positive.  In fact, some Mitt Romney supporters say the convention was so well planned and operated, Florida may move from swing state to leaning Republican.

"I think we've got Florida," delegate Mark Islner predicted.  "I think it's more important we get the mid-western states."

Some leave the Bay Area without the post convention bounce in their step.

"We wanted a fair process. We worked hard to get here," Paul Henderson said.  He and his wife Donna traveled from North Dakota.  They support Ron Paul, and complained the convention rules were unfair to their candidate.

"The process could have been handled better."

They don't blame Tampa for what they claim was unfair treatment.  They're upset with the Republican National Committee that they say pushed unfair convention rules.

"Those of us who believe in liberty and freedom aren't going to quit," Donna Henderson said defiantly.

Last weekend, more than 2,200 delegates flew into Tampa with a job: nominate a presidential and vice presidential candidate.  Now they leave with another job: convincing those back home to support the ticket they came to Tampa to nominate.

"We're ready to go," John Danneker said as he headed back to Paul Ryan's home state of Wisconsin. "It's a matter of when we get back turning us lose."

Were there any surprises?  Robin Coran said  "...even the Democrats were helpful."
