BROOKSVILLE (FOX 13) -

A 21-year-old Brooksville man was arrested Friday on a variety of charges stemming from the theft of 18 golf cart batteries.

Johnathan Allen Griffin was booked into the Hernando County Jail where he is being held on a bond of $14,000.

According to a Hernando County Sheriff's Office report the alleged crimes occurred between 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday.

Detectives assigned to the case quickly contacted several local recyclers in the area where the thefts occurred. One of them told investigators they had purchased the stolen items from Griffin just after 8 a.m. Thursday.

During the transaction the suspect provided the business owner with a Florida identification card and his right thumbprint.

The owner of the stolen batteries identified the items that were sold to the recycler and Griffin was located and arrested.

He is facing one count of burglary of a structure, one count of dealing in stolen property and one county of defrauding a business owner.

Griffin is no stranger to law enforcement in Hernando County with a handful of prior arrests. He served 15 months in state prison for a 2008 burglary conviction.
