PINELLAS PARK (FOX 13) -

A 48-year-old Pinellas County man was arrested early Saturday morning on a variety of charges including first-degree murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend.

Belinda Joyce Thomas died shortly after Luis Antonio Santiago-Maldonado allegedly ran her over with his 2004 Dodge 4-door vehicle at the intersection of 60th St. North and 82nd Terrace North.

According to a Pinellas Park Police Department report officers were dispatched to the location just before 2 a.m. in response to a hit and run call.

Investigators say Thomas, 36, and Santiago-Maldonado got into an argument at their home in the 8400 block of 60th St. North. The argument quickly turned physical and the victim ran from the residence on foot.

The suspect jumped into his vehicle and followed her before investigators say he struck her approximately two blocks from their home.

Santiago-Maldonado abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Just after 6 a.m. members of the PPPD SWAT team located the suspect and took him into custody.

The investigation continues and additional charges may be filed against Santiago-Maldonado.

The suspect has two prior arrests in Pinellas County since 2008. Both involved domestic violence charges.
