ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) -
The St.
Petersburg City Council has settled a controversy over billboards. They voted Thursday night to replace 83 old
static billboards with six digital ones throughout the city.
It was an
8-0 vote in favor of the change.
Clear Channel
will have about half a year to remove the existing signs. As part of the deal, the city will receive 15
percent of the revenue generated by the digital displays.
The
decision is a reversal from last year, when members rejected a similar deal
after pressure from critics who wanted all billboards banned in the city.
