Lance Cpl. Greg Buckley Jr., 21, of Oceanside, was among the six U.S. service members killed by an Afghan police officer on Friday.
Buckley, along with two other marines, was shot to death at a checkpoint in Afghanistan.
A makeshift memorial, created by neighbors, friends, and even strangers, outside his family's home is growing. His mother cried as she looked over all the photos, flowers, mementos, trophies, jerseys, hats, notecards, hats and other items.
Flags at Oceanside High School and throughout Nassau County were flown at half staff in Buckley's honor.
