RNC delegates and visitors are in for a delicious Tampa treat. At Toffee To Go in Tampa, they have been busy filling orders for convention parties and gatherings.
Lisa Schalk has been in the toffee making business for over 10 years.
Lisa says when RNC officials and other visitors got a bite of her tasty treats, it didn't take long for the orders to rolling in.
The reaction to her candy is always the same.
"They roll their eyes in the back of their head. I'll try to say something and they say, ‘no no no—I want to savor this. Talk to me in a minute," Schalk said.
They make about 450 pounds of toffee a day. After prepping it and packaging it, the boxes of toffee sensation will sent to area hotels and party venues, explained sales manager Kelly Flannery.
"As people are coming into the Tampa area, they are getting to experience a piece of Tampa Bay. There's no sweeter gift," Flannery said.
July and August are usually a slow time for the candy maker, but not this year—business is up 10 to 15 percent, and they say it doesn't get any sweeter than that.
