SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
New records show that investigators took blood samples from the bag of skittles Trayvon Martin was carrying the night he was shot and killed.
In the few pages released today, a letter George Zimmerman wrote explaining his 2005 arrest to the Seminole county sheriff's office. He told them he was charged with an assault on a law enforcement officer outside and UCF area bar. He said "He never told me he was an officer and assaulted me first." Going on to say, "I would never assault a police officer." Because of that, the sheriff's office accepted his application to the citizen's police academy.
The documents come on the same day George Zimmerman's attorney announced on his website that he would seek a "stand your ground" hearing. He wrote case evidence shows, "clear support for a strong claim of self defense." Going on to write on his website, "The primary focus of a "stand your ground" hearing is whether George Zimmerman reasonably believed that his use of his weapon was necessary to prevent great bodily harm to himself at the hands of Trayvon Martin."
Benjamin crump sent a statement today saying, that he believes a jury will hear this case. O'Mara office says they have more news, but won't say what, they have called a news conference for Monday. Zimmerman will likely get that hearing, which will seem like a mini trial, including calling witnesses
