An upstate New York Boy Scout leader was attacked by a rabid beaver during a camping trip to the Delaware Water Gap National Park in Pennsylvania.

Sources tell MyFoxNY.com that it happened while a group of scouts were going  down the Delaware River just south of Eshback Access the first week of August.

The assistant scout leader, out of Troop 32 in Elizaville, N.Y., reportedly felt something start to bite him.

A tipster tells MyFoxNY.com that the leader was bitten several times on his hand and chest.

He has been identified as 51-year-old Normand Brousseau, of Pine Plains.

After dragging the man to shore, with the beaver still attacking his hand, the scouts reportedly killed the beaver with rocks and went for help.  Brousseau is receiving rabies treatments.

A parent of one of the scouts told Fox 5 News that the boys did "fantastic" reacting to the situation and were not traumatized by the incident.

Park officials did confirm that a park visitor was bitten by a rabid beaver but would not provide more details.

In a statement, it said it was unknown if other animals in the park are affected.  It said more details would be released as it became available.
