Authorities in Sarasota County have a death investigation on their hands.
An unidentified person drowned just after 1 p.m. Sunday in the waters off North Jetty Park in Nokomis.
According to a Sarasota County Sheriff's Office report deputies responded to the park in response to a distressed swimmer call.
With assistance from officials with Sarasota County Fire and Beach Patrol deputies searched for the subject who was no longer visible in the water.
A short time later the body of the swimmer was located and removed from the water. An official cause of death has not been determined.
Detectives and a forensics team with SCSO were called to the scene to collect evidence. The remains were transported to the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
The investigation continues.
