Authorities in Sarasota County have arrested a 25-year-old man for a string of vehicle burglaries in the Vamo community of Sarasota.
Gene Luna Jr. was charged with six counts of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance. He was booked into the Sarasota County Jail on Friday and released after posting a bond of $32,500.
According to a Sarasota County Sheriff's Office report Luna Jr. broke into six vehicles on four different streets in the early morning hours of July 17th.
Deputies were unable to locate Luna Jr. that morning but managed to catch him after he pawned several items stolen on July 17th.
A thumbprint provided to the pawn broker led detectives to Luna Jr.
In addition to the burglary charges the suspect is also facing one count of providing false information to a pawn broker.
This is not Luna Jr.'s first brush with law enforcement on the Suncoast. The suspect has been arrested on 23 burglary-related charges in the past three years.
Last week he was arrested for selling nine pair of sunglasses that were reported stolen from a vehicle in Sarasota on July 10th.
